My hero is Lin Huiyin because she was the first well known Chinese female architect. I chose her because I also want to become an architect. She was born on June 10, 1904 in Hangzhou, China. She went to Yale University and University of Pennsylvania. She is also known as Phyllis Lin or Lin Whei-yin. She was one of the very few Chinese women at that time to receive a college degree. She met Li Sicheng in University of Pennsylvania. She later married him, who was called the Father of Modern Chinese Architecture. She helped design the national flag of China, China's national emblem, and the Monument to the People's Heroes, which I drew in this drawing. The Monument to the People's Heroes is an obelisk dedicated to the martyrs and heroes who fought and died in the Chinese revolution. She was also famous for being the first woman to attempt to walk on the roof of the Temple of Heaven to develop measurement of ancient Chinese architecture. In 1937, she discovered the main hall of the Foguang Temple in Doucun, Sha’anxi. She was also a writer and a poet. One of her works was “The History of Chinese architecture”. In 1955, she died of the disease tuberculosis.
