Celebrating environmental and political activist Wangari Maathai .
Wangari Maathai was a pioneer in the political and environmental scene throughout the world through her advocacy for democracy, human rights and environmental rights. She was the first woman in Africa to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and the first to achieve one for environmental conservation. With the help of her extensive education, she created the Green Belt Foundation. She believed that tree-planting would serve to a greater purpose of women's rights and democracy.
