Martin Luther King Jr

by Michael Bane from Brooklyn, New York in United States

Have you ever thought about standing up to something that’s bigger than you and has the whole government on its side? Well, Martin Luther king Jr didn’t only think about it, he did it. Martin Luther King Jr was both well known and heroic for fighting what was right and standing up for his race.

Martin Luther King Jr was born in 1929. He was a baptist minister and a social activist. He believed that everyone was equal. He was constantly put down in his life but would constantly stand back up and speak for his race and stand up to discrimination. Martin lived most of his life being hunted down by the FBI because America didn’t like what he was doing. When Martin was born he was born into the name of Michael until 1934 when Martin's dad traveled to Germany and changed both their names to martin. He was also a child prodigy he skipped both 9th and 12th grade. While being hunted down by the FBI and a child prodigy, Martin was also a massive Star Trek fan. He convinced Nichelle Nichols not to leave her role as L.T Uhare.

Martin Luther King Jr dedicated almost his whole life to standing up for black people. His heroic actions started from his commitment to justice and his powerful ability to inspire others. This helped the African- Americans make one big step in history. For example, in 1955, Martin led a 385 day boycott against segregation on the public transit systems after Rosa Park’s arrest. Martin Luther King Jr also helped lead the march on Washington which was a fight against black people not being able to get jobs because of their race and ethnicity, they marched until Johnson created a ban on discrimination when it comes to jobs with the Civil Rights Act of 1964

In the end, Martin Luther King Jr was a brave, strong and courageous man. The reason I look up to him is because he stood up for what’s right knowing what the consequences could be. In my opinion, that is heroic because he set a goal and was willing to do anything to achieve it.
