Princess Diana and Martin Luther King, Jr.

by Mackenzie from Mill Valley

A hero is someone who helps others. Not just in a small way, but in a way that can affect the rest of that persons life. To me, a hero is someone who has courage. A hero will treat everyone equally, and will stand up for what he or she believes in.

Princess Diana was an important hero to me. When she first married Prince Charles, she was just known as the Princess of Whales. Later she became known as much more than that. She got involved with many charities. She also made people aware of AIDS, raised money for AIDS, and helped people who had the disease. She devoted her time, energy and the last years of her life to other people. It’s no wonder she was called “The People’s Princess” and “The Queen of Hearts”. Princess Diana was a hero in many ways, but mostly for helping other people. Even though she is deceased, Princess Diana will not be forgotten. Her influence on other people will live on forever.

Martin Luther King, Jr. is also an important hero to me. On August 28, 1963, his speech changed the world. After his speech, people started treating others equally. He led the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Martin Luther King, Jr. falls under all of my descriptions of a hero, and to me, he is a hero. He is a hero for his courage, his urge to help others, and for standing up for what he believed in.

Princess Diana and Martin Luther King Jr. helped other people, and died because of it. Martin Luther King, Jr. died by being shot to death by a man who didn’t share his thoughts on treating people equally. Princess Diana was being chased by paparazzi who were trying to get her picture because of how she helped others. Princess Diana and Martin Luther King, Jr. will be remembered forever.
