Vincent Kennedy McMahon, Jr. |
Heroes are people who have made a difference, big or small. I personally think that the best kind of hero is someone who revolutionizes something. Vincent Kennedy McMahon, Jr. revolutionized wrestling, which many people do not realize. Most just see him as the biggest heel in wrestling history.
Vince McMahon, Jr. was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1945 and wrestling was already in his blood. His father, Vincent McMahon, Sr. was the creator and owner of the WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation).

The Champion |
The WWWF was started in the 1960’s. The company was very serious with very serious matches. In June 1982, McMahon, Sr. retired, giving the company to Mr. McMahon, Jr. who immediately started promoting the company to truly make it worldwide. He also changed the name to the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). Later on, the name had to be changed to WWE due to a lawsuit with the World Wildlife Fund.
Vince McMahon began to change the face of wrestling, completely revolutionizing it. It wasn’t so serious anymore. He made it crazy, kept people in suspense, making it much more exciting. He brought in new wrestlers with all sorts of different personas. In March of 1985, Mr. McMahon created the “global phenomenon” known as Wrestle Mania. Twenty years later, Wrestle Mania is still the biggest event in sports entertainment.
In 1990, WCW (World Championship Wrestling) came about. Mr. McMahon made the WWF very popular, but WCW was winning the TV ratings. It took a feud between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon himself to win the ratings for the first time in 83 weeks. On March 23, Mr. McMahon bought out his rival, WCW. Due to buying out WCW, Mr. McMahon had to change the company’s format once more to keep all of the fans interested since they no longer had a choice in the type of wrestling they could watch. On March 18th, 2002, Linda McMahon (Vince’s wife) announced that there would be a brand extension. The company now would have two different shows and a wrestler could only wrestle for the show with which they had a contract. The shows are RAW and Smackdown!

WWE in Iraq |
Whether you accept it or not, Vincent Kennedy McMahon made wrestling what it is today and, without him, there would be no Monday Night RAW, there would be no Wrestle Mania. He’s not like most leaders who keep a low profile of their own company. Mr. McMahon is always right there in the action. He has even held the WWE World Title, which would fit him just right since he is the one who made wrestling a worldwide passion. He lets everyone know that “you never cross the boss!”
