Michelle Obama

by Elizabeth Carr from san diego, California in United States

Imagine being an average American lawyer from Chicago and then becoming the first African American First Lady. For Michelle Obama this became her reality after being married to former President, Barack Obama. Michelle Obama was born on January 17, 1964 in Chicago Illinois. She attended college at Princeton University and graduated in 1985. After she graduated she worked as an associate attorney where she met her husband, Barack Obama. Barack Obama was later elected a the first African American President in 2008. Michelle Obama is my hero and so many other people’s because she is selfless and giving while as First Lady. She shows these traits through her dedication by starting programs such as “Let's Move” and “Joining Forces” to help make a selfless difference.

This program is designed to help kids and teens across America fight obesity rates. “Let’s Move! Has developed a five-point strategy for reducing childhood obesity rates.” (“Let’s Move” gale student). This program is benefiting lives nationwide and inspiring kids and teens to make healthy choices and inform them why and how health is important. Michelle is selfless because by creating this program she is putting in hard work but it is only benefiting others and not herself. This program was made to fight obesity and help young kids stay healthy. “Let’s Move! Serves as a proactive nationwide movement to help US young people achieve and maintain healthy weight throughout their lives.” (“Let’s Move” gale student). By doing this Michelle is proving she is using her power to reach out to the kids of America and make a selfless difference.

The objective of this program was to give extra support to families with a member that is a soldier in the United States army. “I want to send a very clear message to men and women who are wearing-or have worn- our country’s uniform and to their spouses: when you have finished your service to our nation, you’ve got 2000 great American companies ready and waiting to bring you on board.” (Michelle Obama gale student). Michelle Obama is putting out a message that after you serve our Country there will be a normal life waiting for you when you come back. This makes her giving by starting this program, as well as helping soldiers find jobs after serving for our Country. The program also gives service to the military families. “The initiative also worked to ease the transition among schools for military children forced to move due to a parents reassignment and to provide physical and mental wellness programs for families facing stressors unique to the military lifestyle.” (Michelle Obama gale student). This program was created to help military families and soldiers transition and deal with the struggles of having a family member in the US army. This makes Michelle Obama a hero because it makes her giving to all the families she is helping.
