He was an Indian and at the beginning, he studied to become a lawyer like his parents . Finally, he became a civil rights leader to leave the British Empire. All started when he set about organizing peasants, farmers and urban laborers to protest against excessive land-tax and discrimination. Gandhi organized non-violent civil rights protests and fought pacifically for the Indian independence. During theses campaigns, a lot of Indians refused to work, sat in the street, boycotted the courts ... One of Gandhi's most famous protests is the Salt March because Britain had put a tax on the salt. It's 8 August 1942. Many Indians decided to walk 24 miles to arrive on the edge of the Indian Ocean and they collected salt by themselves. He became the director of « Indian National Congress » and directed a national campaign to help homeless and for women's liberation. One day Gandhi organized a meeting but he was shot by a terrorist in 1948. He was 78 years old. During his life, he was put in jail because of his organization and in the jail he decided to not eat. Gandhi is my hero because he believed in his nation and freedom, he was disadvantaged even if his parents were lawyers and he tried to release his country pacifically. It's very courageous to try non-violence and he succeeded. So, he gives me strength and hope. He was the most generous and very loyal man because he helped his country even during the bad moments. Gandhi is recognized as «  father of nation », so his birthday is a national day. This day is also declared « international day of non-violence » it's 2 October. It's a good revenge. Mahatma inspired Nelson Mandela. Many films were created about Gandhi «  Mahatma : life of Gandhi ».
