My Great Grandpa John F. Greaney

"Even though things get hard, keep moving forward and don't give up."

                                      John F Greaney

My hero is my great grandpa John F. Greaney. This is my hero because I was really close to him and he was in World War 2. Sadly he died in 2016, but in spirit he is still here. He built the landing strips for the aircraft to land. He risked his life to help other people and have the freedom we have today. When he came back from World War 2, he was kind to everybody and loved to help everybody. He had 11 children and loved them all so much. There was a boy where his father passed away, and my great grandpa took him in as his own. He had his own barber shop and he went to the soldiers' homes and gave them free haircuts. There were boys who came to the barber shop and would read comics that my great grandpa would put there, and he would always give them lollipops. When I was born and was with him, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and he would always still be there when we visited even though he was sick. My great grandpa treated my grandpa like a son more than my grandpa's own father. John F. Greaney, my great grandfather, was really close to church. He loved going there almost every day. When we came over he liked to tell stories about his family. My great grandma was very sad when my great grandpa passed and she tells about him all the time, and we get to learn more about him every time we visit her. My great grandpa's favorite holiday was Christmas because he liked to give things out to people. When we gave him presents he was so grateful. My great grandpa loved animals. When my grandma brought home homeless kittens, my great grandpa allowed them to have them. My great grandpa was kind to everyone. He would give random people he saw gifts or candy because that was the way he was. He would not take no for an answer. He is stubborn and he did not want people telling him no when he wanted to pay for something like lunch. My great grandpa spread kindness to everyone. If you were having a bad day, you just had to be around him and you would start having a better day. He was the kindest man I have ever met and I am so lucky to know him.
