My name is Mnium, and my mama is my HERO because she created a school in nature for me and my friends where we can learn, play, and be safe. That's her, sitting on her mat on the grass, under the oaks and clear blue skies.
"My mama always used to take me and my friends on walks in nature. After the pandemic started, we were sad we coudn't be with our friends or go to school. She worked really hard doing two jobs, but then quit one so she can create Nature School, and now I never want to go back to regular school. I am so happy I get to climb trees, make boats, play games, read books, and hike mountains every day with my best friends. She has to work a lot at home on her computer too after we get back from Nature School, but maybe some day she won't have to".
Ms. Steffani created a nature school in response to the lack of a safe learning environment throughout the pandemic. Biologist, educator, and Mnium's mama, whom like many others had lost the joy of learning and had no sociability, used her community-organizing and love of teaching to create this community-based program where kids have not just regained normalcy and stayed away from screens, but are also connecting to nature, staying fit, participating in conservation projects, and exceeding academic achievement.
