My Mom's Grandpa

by Jesse Hickman from Liberty, Missouri in United States

I interviewed my mom about how her childhood was and who her childhood hero was. It turned out it was her grandpa, and he kind of saved her in a way from her home life and put her into a better environment.

Questions

  • Did you have a childhood hero?

137291This is her grandpa mom's photo book "Yes I did. I had a grandfather."

  • What was your childhood like?

137292Another pictureMy mom's picture book"When I was young, my mom was very mentally abusive and would say things like I was ugly, fat, worthless, no point in you living, and I was not allowed to go out with my friends, talk on my phone, go outside, and she made me do pointless chores and everything had to be perfect, and I had a really good grades and she would say, 'I don't care about your grades.' Also, my mom never said I love you once, and that's why I always say I love you to my children every time I get."

  • What happened to cause him to be a hero to you?

"My grandpa was a very hard worker, and one thing he said was never use credit cards. He worked in the Chief's stadium and I always thought that was so cool. He was always super nice. I lived with him for super long because I did not have a good relationship with my mom. He would always give me a kiss before I went to school, and I would do anything to get that kiss back. We also would travel the United States every summer when I was a kid."

  • Can you tell me the story of how he became your hero?

"When I was 15, I moved out of my mom's house because of a fight with my mom, and she kicked me out because I would not clean the kitchen. And the next day my grandpa took me to school and she picked me up from school and took me to the police station, and told cops that I was not coming back home because she kicked me out, and the police officer said that since you kicked her out, she does not have to come back home. So then I started to live with my grandpa from then on out."
