MY HERO TO HONOR SYLVIA EARLE AWARD WINNERS IN A CELEBRATION OF WORLD OCEAN HEROES
MAY 22, 2026 - LAGUNA BEACH, CA - The MY HERO International Film Festival received a record number of submissions this year for the Sylvia Earle Ocean Conservation Award, which recognizes outstanding films that highlight heroes working to save and preserve the world’s oceans.
The Sylvia Earle Award is presented each year on World Oceans Day - June 8th. This year, the winners will be unveiled at a special World Oceans Day celebration on Saturday, June 6th, at the Rivian South Coast Theater in Laguna Beach, CA.

We invite you to join us for an inspiring evening, celebrating heroes working to protect the ocean and the filmmakers telling their stories.
The program will begin with a salute to local ocean conservation activists including Laguna Ocean Foundation, Marine biologist Nancy Caruso, known as the ‘Kelp Lady.’ Caruso's work has helped to restore the giant kelp forests in Laguna Beach.

The Sylvia Earle Ocean Conservation Award Winners’ short films will be screened. IMAX filmmakers Barbara and Greg MacGillivray, who sponsor the annual prize, through MacGillivray Freeman Films One World One Ocean Campaign will be on hand to present the honors to the winning filmmakers.
