The Steve Nash Foundation Charity Classic (NBA.com) |
My hero is Steve Nash. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 7, 1974. He moved to Victoria, British Columbia when he was two years old. He grew up playing hockey, soccer and lacrosse. Later, he started basketball. Steve played basketball at Santa Clara College. Steve was drafted 15th overall by Phoenix in the 1996 draft. In 1998 Nash was traded to the Dallas Mavericks but he would return to Phoenix in 2004.
Steve Nash has made a charity organization and he holds an annual charity basketball game. It is called the Steve Nash foundation Charity Classic. Nash is also the sponsor of the Steve Nash Youth Basketball League in British Columbia that has grown to over 10,000 participants. Nash also created the Recycle with Steve Nash Program for the Mavericks’ adopt-a-school program. He was named Canada Games honorary chairperson.
Nash was also named by Time Magazine one of 100 most influential people in the world. He also paid for a pediatric cardiology ward in a Paraguayan hospital. Nash suffers from a medical condition called spondylolisthesis, a forward movement of a vertebra in the spine in relation to the one below it, causing muscle tightness and back pain. He was most valuable player in 2005 and 2006. He was a four time National Basketball Association All-Star in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. He was the league leader in assists in 2005 (861) and 2006 (826). Nash has made some amazing accomplishments. He is my hero because he has a passion for sports and always gives back to the communities across the world however he can.
