Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon. To me a hero is somebody you can look up to. For example my hero is Neil Armstrong because I want to be able to go to the moon like him. He was first to make a footprint in the moon’s surface. And he put the American flag down on the moon.
I admire Neil Armstrong because he was very brave and the ship he went on had a chance to explode. Even now there is a risk astronauts take, and it could still happen.. It was very hard for Neil to even be able to get on the ship because he had to train to get conditioned and it was very hard to do that.
In addition, when Neil Armstrong was on the moon he did all sorts of tests. One test was about gravity. In that test he dropped a hammer and a feather at the same time and hit the ground at the same time. That test really helped scientists with the understanding of the universe and how gravity works.
He was in the group that was first on the moon. He stepped down the ladder and said as he hit the ground “one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.” He and his other colleagues went to get rock samples for back at the lab on earth. He also rode around in a moon buggy and put the American flag down.
Even though Neil Armstrong was not the first in space he still got the see how big the earth really was from the moon. “You can put your thumb up, and hide the earth behind your thumb.” That is a weird thing to see, you think that the earth is this giant thing in the galaxy, but when you see it from the moon it looks very small. And that is my hero report about Neil Armstrong.
