Nelson Mandela

MandelainternetI'm going to tell you about my hero. his name his Nelson Mandela.

For me a hero is a person who lives with courage and follows his heart. A good example is Nelson Mandela.

He was born on July 18, 1918 in South Africa and he died on December 5, 2013 in South Africa. He was 95 years old. He had five children. Nelson Mandela opposed the system of apartheid in South Africa.

In 1939, South Africa practiced segregation. Blacks were considered as inferiors to whites: they did not have the right to vote, no mixed weddings... Nelson opposed segregation, but he was imprisoned for 27 years and he was released in 1990. He became the president of South Africa and he ended segregation, and everyone had the same rights.

He was very courageous and he succeeded to show to the whites that all humans are equal. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

As a conclusion, for me he is a very courageous and audacious man who had a difficult life, but thanks to him everyone has the same rights in South Africa. The power of words is stronger than the one of weapons. He's an example for everyone.
