My Passion:

“I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons

live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.”

During my lifetime I was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist.

After surviving 27 years in prison for my beliefs and convictions, I became the first

democratically elected President of South Africa and served from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela Notable Quotes:

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

“For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way

that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

“It always seems impossible until it's done.”

“You will achieve more in this world through acts of mercy than you will through acts of retribution.”

“Lead from the back — and let others believe they are in front.”

“Mr. Mandela was more than one of the greatest pillars of our time. He was one of our greatest teachers.

He taught by example. He sacrificed so much … for freedom and equality, for democracy and justice.”

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

“Madiba’s long walk to freedom gave new meaning to courage, character, forgiveness, and human dignity.

Now that his long walk has ended, the example he set for all humanity lives on.

He will be remembered as a pioneer for peace.”

Secretary of State John Kerry
