Jerry Only is one of the most amazing bass players in the horror rock world. In 1977, Jerry Only and Glen Danzig (Samhain, Danzig) formed one of the most influential bands of the decade, The Misfits. The Misfits fell into their own new music genre, Horror Rock. At the time there was nothing like them. By using oldies style chord progressions and dark, brutal lyrics all played at break-neck speeds, The Misfits were a style all there own. The Misfits have influenced many bands that are now famous including Metallica, AFI, and Danzig.
Jerry Only was born on April, 21 1959 in Lodi, New Jersey. Nowadays, Jerry Only still plays bass for The Misfits even though the lineup of the band has changed in the last 17 years. Jerry still remains faithful and can play faster and harder than ever before. When playing shows, the lineup is Jerry Only on bass and vocals, Dez Cadina(Black Flag) on guitar and Marky Ramone(Ramones) on drums. Jerry is the fastest and hardest player I've ever heard that uses his fingers.
Jerry Only's incredible skills have changed my life for the best. When I first heard The Misfits I thought of how cool they sounded. These thoughts inspired me to play the bass. Out of all of the sounds in The Misfits, I thought the bass sounded the coolest. Now I have been playing the bass for about 2 years and I think that I am going to stick with it for the rest of my life.
