Oprah Winfrey |
A hero is a person who cares about people. Heroes should care about people’s feelings and the consequences that come from the choices that they make. They should at least try to help people in need. One person I know who is everything I think a hero should be is Oprah Winfery.
When Oprah was 17, she started her broadcasting career. She lived with her mother from age six to 13 in Milwaukee. Oprah suffered from abuse. Then one day, she ran away and went to a juvenile detention home when she was 13. They wouldn’t accept her because there was no room. So, as a last resort, she went to stay with her father, Vernon Winfrey, in Nashville, Tennessee. Her father was very strict. When she was 19, she signed with WTVF-TV in Nashville as a reporter/anchor.

Oprah graduated from Tennessee State University and majored in speech and communications and performing arts. Since September 8, 1986, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” has been a top-rated talk show. It became No. 1 in less than a year. Her show received three Daytime Emmy Awards in the categories of Outstanding Host, Talk/Service Program, and Outstanding Direction. She also stared in the movie "The Color Purple," which earned her nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award.
Oprah started her own book club. Almost all the books in her club became best sellers. She is a partner in Oxygen Media INC., which is a cable channel designed mainly for women. Oprah Winfrey was the first African-American woman to become a billionaire.
Oprah is a hero to me and many other people. Her life is an inspiring one. She is one of the best talk show hosts and a very good therapist. She has gone from rock bottom all the way to the top. That is why Oprah Winfrey is my hero.
