Oren Lyons is a Native American member of the Onondaga and Seneca nations of the Iroquois confederacy. Born in 1930, Oren served in the army and received a scholarship to Syracuse University, playing a sport enjoyed by generations of his people: lacrosse.
Lyons has long been an outspoken proponent for indigenous rights and human rights and a fierce defender of Native tradition. As an older person, Lyons continues to serve his people as a member of The Traditional Circle of Indian Elders.
