What do you think a hero is? Some qualities heroes can have are responsibility, caring, respect, wisdom, and fairness. But in my mind a hero is wise, thoughtful, and athletic, shows perseverance, and is encouraging. That is why I picked Cat Osterman as my hero.
Cat Osterman is a 6’3 pitcher for the University of Texas. I remember the first time I went to see her play at a Texas softball game. Texas was playing Arkansas. We sat on the first base line. Cat pitched, the batter hit it. The ball came soaring over and it bounced right in front of me. On the second bounce I caught it. “Foul ball!” called the Umpire. Texas lost but I caught a ball.
Cat Osterman has a lot of great qualities I admire. She is thoughtful because she is always cheering for her teammates on the field or in the dugout. Cat is encouraging to her team. If a teammate misses a ball, she would say, “You will get it next time!” or “Good try!” She always makes up cheers with her teammates for the batter and the on-deck batter. Cat is a great person for her traits and talents.
Cat Osterman has won lots of awards. She has accomplished a great feat. Cat Osterman made it on the USA softball team. One accomplishment she has done is, in 2004, Cat Osterman and the USA team went to the Olympics in Athens, Greece. I watched every second of it. Cat Osterman persevered and with her team won the Gold Medal. Cat is known as one of the best softball players because of that moment.
This is why Cat Osterman is a hero to me. She shows wisdom, thoughtfulness, athleticism, and perseverance. You might think she’s not a hero, but in my mind she is. She has accomplished some big feats that nobody can do.
