Serena Williams

by Bastien Neveux from New York City , New York in United States

Imagine doing something you love, but people keep on pushing you down, but you never give up. Well that is basically the story of Serena Williams, one of the best tennis players of all time.

On September 26, 1981, a legend was born in Saginaw, Michigan - her name was Serena Williams. Although she was born in Michigan, Serena Williams spent most of her childhood in Compton (California). Serena Williams had 10 siblings including another tennis player called Venus Williams. Although Venus Williams was really good she never achieved the same greatness as her sister, only winning 7 Grand Slams (Most important tournament.) Serena Williams won 23. But Serena Williams did not have an easy path to greatness. She faced racism and sexism and even boycotted a tournament because people were throwing racial slurs. This shows that she is really tough and doesn’t give up.

Serena Williams isn’t just amazing on the court; she has also used her fame to help people who need it. She has impacted the world in many positive ways for example she built schools in Jamaica, Uganda and Kenya, she donated to a domestic violence shelter and more! As a kid, she lived in a dangerous neighborhood with gang violence. I think this inspired her to help people who have suffered like she did.

Serena Williams is a hero and is very loyal, kind and loving. Serena Williams teaches us to give to those in need and to never give up but not let yourself get pushed around.
