Jang Wonyoung

”No matter what you say, I don’t care. You are you and I am me,” says Jang Wonyoung from the K-pop group IVE, more known simply as Wonyoung. She started her popularity for finishing first through the Mnet survival show named Produce 48 and getting into a group named IZ*ONE. Her popularity has increasingly grown in her present group IVE, as the center and face of the group - and also what people call the 4th generation it girl. As beautiful as she may be outside, it all leads back to her confidence and mindset. She gives her fans (fans, known as DIVEs) the positive influence and mental strength they need.

Wonyoung’s family consists of her mother, her father who is a music teacher, and her older sister, who is also an artist and actress that goes by the name Jang Da-ah. As a young girl, she went to Seoul Shinyonsan Elementary School and in her pre-teen years, Yonggang Middle School. She eventually dropped out to be homeschooled. At only 13 years old, in 2017, Wonyoung got scouted by Starship Entertainment before training for a little over a year and participating in the survival show Produce 48. She then continued to win first place and debuted as the face & center of IZ*ONE, the group she was placed into. After a bit more than 2 years, Wonyoung debuted as a member of IVE, a girl group made by Starship Entertainment.

During her popularity, she often responded by not paying much attention to the negative comments made but the positive aspects. Her attitude suggests she is a confident woman and knows when she has done something wrong or right. She continues to speak out through her music, an example can be her and her group’s song named “Either Way”. In one of her lyrics, she states, “Sometimes I can’t even understand the looks I get / It feels unfair at times, but / The countless versions of me made from misunderstandings / All of them are ‘me’ in the end”.

The mindset includes being your best self, being good both physically and mentally, and having an overall optimistic outlook on life no matter its ups or downs. Wonyoung values self-care, positivity, and personal growth. She also values genuine truth and strong boundaries with her fans and in her career.
