Martin Luther King Jr.

by Miles Brausa from Brooklyn, New York in United States

Did you know that at his time, Martin Luther King Jr. was the youngest person to receive a Nobel Peace Prize? He was 35. His 'I Have a Dream Speech' is his most famous speech. He made speeches in front of up to 250,000 people. He fought against racism and segregation.

MLK was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta. When he was 12 MLK tried to commit suicide after learning that his grandmother had died. When MLK  was 15 he skipped 2 grades and went to college. He grew up in a time of racism and segregation.

Martin Luther King Jr. made speeches about racism and discrimination against black people. He inspired many people to protest against racism. Because he was protesting, he was jailed 29 times. Despite that he continued protesting inequality and racism.

Even while in jail, MLK did not stop fighting against racism. In his letter from Birmingham jail he responded to people who criticized his ways of protest. He was a very brave and kind person who reminded us that you should always protest unfairness.
