FDR, the greatest American president

by Everett adkins from Brooklyn , New York in United States

  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The 32nd president of the United States. He was also the only president to serve for more than 8 years. So was he power hungry? No. He used his time to save the United States from the Great Depression, as well as putting the United States in World War 2 when no one else had the nerve to, probably majorly changing the outcome of the war. So no, in 0 way was he power hungry, not to mention the fact that he did a lot of work into curing polio, so kids could get the care he never had, and I doubt that polio care would be nearly as good as it is right now.
  • Franklin was diagnosed with polio when he was 39, not in his childhood exactly but at the time polio care was awful, and he still persisted through the insanely challenging and difficult environment of having a disease that no one new how to cure, and put a lot of money towards polio treatment, creating a lot of treatment centers.
  • After all that, he ran for president. He demolished his opponent. While president, he led America through the Great Depression, creating new jobs while also making the city better. One term wasn’t enough, and he ran again, destroying his opponent even more, making even more jobs, and making the city even better. So 2 terms, he must be done right? Well, actually, at the time, it wasn’t a law that you could only run 2 times, so he ran again, not because he wanted power, but because he knew America needed him, since World War 2 had recently started and they needed a good president. He won, though not by a landslide, and continued to be an amazing president, doing what the people wanted, and didn’t join the war until the people decided they wanted to.
  • all good things, however, most come to an end, and FDR died during his 4th term. All of America mourned his death. FDR was not power hungry. He was a hero who made sure people had the help for polio, he didn’t, a hero who led America through 2 crises, a hero who America loved.
