Tal Anderson

by Abigail Richardson from MY HERO Staff

Through her acting, writing, and advocacy, Tal Anderson is an inspiring voice for neurodiversity and disability inclusion.

Born August 1st, 1997, in New Orleans and raised in Cape Coral, Florida, Anderson is of Korean and Italian-American heritage and has spoken openly about her experience as a multi-racial adoptee. Diagnosed with a learning disorder as a baby and later with autism during preschool, she did not learn about her autism diagnosis until she was 15 years old. Despite challenges, Anderson has often credited the strong support of her family, teachers, and therapists with helping her thrive.

From an early age, Anderson was drawn to acting. After graduating as valedictorian from Full Sail University, she moved to Los Angeles with her cat, Winnie, and began working in media production while pursuing creative opportunities.

Her breakthrough came with the Netflix series Atypical, where she played Sid, an autistic teenager navigating friendships, identity, and growing up. As Anderson herself is autistic, audiences and critics praised her performance for helping create more realistic portrayals of neurodivergent young people.

In 2025, Anderson joined the HBO series The Pitt as Becca King, continuing her commitment to authentic representation. Her portrayal, alongside actress Taylor Dearden, has been recognised for offering a nuanced and believable depiction of autism within family relationships.

Beyond acting, Anderson is also a children’s author. Inspired by her own experiences, she co-created the children’s book Oh, Tal! Not Today with autistic illustrator Michael Richey White. The book encourages understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for neurodivergent children. A second book in the series is already planned.

Anderson regularly speaks about autism representation, employment opportunities for neurodivergent people, and the importance of inclusion in the entertainment industry.

For many young autistic people, Tal Anderson represents something powerful: the ability to succeed without hiding who you are. Through creativity, resilience, and advocacy, she continues to inspire others to embrace difference and see neurodiversity as a strength rather than a limitation.

Oh, Tal! Not Today is the delightful first book in the "OH, TAL!" series, created by autistic actor Tal Anderson and Hollywood artist Michael Richey White. In this beautifully illustrated picture book, we meet Tal and her loyal cat, Winnie. Though Tal doesn’t speak much and has a unique way of doing things, vibrant imagination, creativity, and independence shine through.

As Tal’s parents learn that things aren't always what they seem, true intentions come to light. Perfect for young readers, parents, and educators, this heartwarming story celebrates being different and doing things your own way!
