Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty was born in 1979 in Hexham, he is an artist. His first love is the literature; he won a poetry prize in his youth. He also wrote a book: Book of Albion and displays his paintings in Paris. When he met Carl Barât, he had a brainwave, he will be musician: they created The Libertines, a well-known rock band. After two albums they split up in 2005. He founded Babyshambles, a new band. Currently they have recorded two albums. Unfortunately, he is more known for his pranks than for his talent. But in spite of the malicious gossip, he is a great artist.

It’s true that he lives a life of excesses. His media romances with models like Kate Moss went round the world. But the worst is his drug addiction. His many attempts to stop don’t change that. He is not very commendable. His life is one of debauchery. He wastes his life and his talent drugging and living exposed to the paparazzi. His life is flaunted in tabloids. He is accused of causing Kate Moss’ drug addiction, accused of having a bad influence on his young fans. According to certain journalists, he is the perfect example of decadence.

But, for me, Pete Doherty is above all a fully-fledged artist. He is fond of literature as we can see in his songs which are very fine and sound very good, like poems. He is also a great musician. He plays guitar and he writes his music himself. Furthermore in concert he is very communicative with the public. He shows his pleasure to be on stage and to play music. I think the life of Pete Doherty is a masterpiece. He is the incarnation of “Sex, Drugs & Rock’n’Roll”. He is the character of his life, a complicated character, with many facets, who lives of his passions and doesn’t give a damn about the rest.

Pete Doherty is my hero, not my model. My hero because he lives of his passions; not my model because he lives only for his passions, forgetting the rest. My hero because he lives in the present, he sets every days as they come; not my model because he’s not aware of the consequences of his excesses. My hero because he is a genius, a visionary; not my model because he is out of the reality, he lives in an other world. My hero because his music is fabulous; not my model because he wastes his talent

To conclude, I chose Pete Doherty because, for me, a hero is not necessarily a model, it is an artist who lives of his passion and shares it. It’s somebody who lights up the lives of the others, and Pete Doherty, by his music, lights up my life each day. Without him, I wouldn’t be the same today.
