Desmond T. Doss

by crickett from Grain Valley

Someone who is brave, intelligent and a role model is the definition of my hero Desmond T. Doss.

He served as a medic in the U.S. Marine Corp. He refused to carry a weapon. That is brave, because everyone said he’d die, but he didn’t die, he survived. During war soldiers didn’t have time to get a drink of water, because they didn’t want water when bullets are flying over their heads. A lot of soldiers died of dehydration. Desmond either saved or tried to save the soldiers who needed help.

They assigned Desmond to Fort Pickett in Virginia. The upper assignments put him in a rifle company where you had to carry a weapon of some sort. The day they put him in that company Desmond said, ‘He’d never carry a gun for as long as he lived,’ because he followed the 10 commandments.

Desmond T. Doss is truly my hero. He is brave, because he saved lives under fire. He was intelligent, because he figured out a way to save 75 lives. That is two reasons why he is remembered his live saving actions. He is truly my hero. Someday I hope to be brave and save lives.
