WHO IS PASTOR BUGEMBE?????

Why he is a Hero!!!!! Wilson Bugembe is an acclaimed gospel singer, preacher, pastor and adopted father to many. He became renowned as a musician at a tender age of 19. Pastor Wilson Bugembe is the second born of six boys all of whom were borne to HIV positive parents in Masaka. Wilson and his last born brother Brian narrowly escaped the epidemic when they were negative at birth. At the age of 10,Wilson Bugembe ran away from their home village in Masaka after the death of his father in 1995. When his parents and four of his brothers died, his grandfather began mistreating him and he fled to Kampala to live with his grandmother. Life with grandmother was sheer survival for the fittest as he could bearly have anything for himself, not education , good feeding or good health. It was then when Wilson Bugembe a senior pastor of Light the World Ministries resorted to Kampala streets. He ate from the city dustbin and slept under a tree for over two years. And thi where a good Samaritan had to get him from.. Despite the fact that the victims were receiving treatment, they lacked spiritual counseling and guidance. This aspect was unknown to many people and yet the greatest hope is to believe and trust in Jesus who came that they may have life, and have it to the fullest (John 10:10). Later my sister died of the same ailment and is survived by three children, two of which got infected with the same epidemic, thus passing it on to some of their children. Because of the miserable and desperate situation these kids were going through, it occurred to me that many more other families were going through the same situation. However, as a result was prompted to setting up a fellowship where the victims could meet so as to get encouragement, share their experiences and also to embark on small scale income generating projects in order to empower them financially. This project was started with very little resources at that time, in anticipation that some well‐wishers could join the struggle of helping to improve on the victims' lives and families so as to live a meaningful life. The fellowship has been a blessing to so many families and as of today, it has turned out into a bigger ministry that is reaching out to the HIV positive women and children in Bugembe whose parents succumbed to the Aids epidemic. My appreciation goes to Rev. Daniel & Mrs. Joy Situka of Wings of Hope Ministries, who have supported this ministry financially and morally. It is because of them that this ministry has come this far. I also want to convey my appreciation to Sister Lisa for the time and expenses she incurred in connection with her trip from United States of America to Bugembe just to reach out to the HIV victims and families. May you be rewarded abundantly!

LIFE BACKGROUND IN SIMPLE DETAILS

With Uganda's gospel music getting so competitive more than ever before, a lot of gospel artists are pulling up their socks not to be blown by the storm of transformation. Among the many gospel artists who are currently doing tremendously well include but not limited to Judith Babirye, Martin Ssaku, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, The G-stars, God's Army, Exodus and Lumu. On this endless list, one melodist takes the popular vote. That's none other than Pastor Wilson Bugembe. Read more about Pastor Wilson Bugembe's life: Ms. Babirye Janet was at her home. A number of individuals were found busy cutting and making paper vines for hand crafts. Her house is used as the office premises as well as a meeting place for those involved in the making of hand crafts

BUGEMBE AS THE SENIOR PASTOR

The main preacher and visionary of Light the World, Wilson didn't always feel destined to be a pastor. In fact, his passion for music and his confidence in succeeding at new things is what interested him initially in the fellowships around school. But quickly God began to change him. Wilson came from the streets. Orphaned at a young age and forced to fend for himself around Kampala, it was the love of his Wilfred and Philip (both pastors at Light the World) which took him off the streets and got him into school. So when Wilson began to really listen to the preachers telling him that Jesus loves him, he was affected. With time, Wilson began to grow deeper in his faith, and felt a conviction to reach lost souls. He heard God calling him and his friends to spear-head the coming generation, to talk to and encourage youths. So when he was called to start a church at age 17, he answered by enlisting the help of his friends. His broad and sweeping vision for Light the World Ministries has taken the church to increasing levels of success within the community of Nansana and throughout Uganda. God has called Light the World to carry the banner of worship to all of Uganda, a ministry of Christ's love. In the near future, however, Wilson sees Light the World as being a blessing to people around the world. Wilson sees his own role in this mission through music and preaching, but acknowledges that someday the church may have another Senior Pastor with different talents. Above all, he describes, "I am grateful to the Lord that at least we have a plan. Because the plan comes before the provision. Our vision is big and our ministry will eventually be paying a lot of bills, but the simple fact that God has blessed his name through our name is great. With this name God has given us, his name can be glorified through us."

FROM GRASS TO GRACE

Born from a southern district of Uganda Masaka, Pastor Wilson Bugembe grew up amidst the worst circumstances which man can not easily endure. During his early years, the young Bugembe witnessed unfortunate trials and temptations. These included the loss of his two parents, death of his siblings and suffering for over four years as a street child. After the death of his parents and siblings, Wilson Bugembe faced life all alone. He was mistreated and poorly treated by those that had earlier on promised to help him. With no shoes, one yellow shirt and a pair of shorts,Bugembe left home and decided to face the world alone. At this time, he had no food, no home and his tears became his face cleaners. As you all know, God never forsakes his people. One day Wilson Bugembe's life changed and indeed changed completely. After leaving the streets, Bugembe joined a Born again group which facilitated his rehabilitation process. During all this time, no one knew that the sickly and tiny Bugembe would at one time achieve what he has today. But with God, nothing is impossible. Pastor Bugembe's life is a clear testimony. As of today, Pastor Wilson Bugembe is one of the best if not the best gospel artist in East Africa. His life journey is along one that can not be easily completed in just a day's edition. From grass to grace, the singing Pastor is indeed Uganda's gospel story teller. His break through song was Njagala Kumanya. This sold out utmost as it received non stop airplays on both Radio and Television stations. At this stage however, the gospel music fans were not yet so familiar with the person behind this life inspiring hit. From Njagala Kumanya, Pastor Bugembe proved that he had come to stay when he released yet another society relating song titled Komawo Eka.This too sold out highly and was followed by other inspirational and society awakening hits such as Bwalikujukira, Kani and his latest release Ani. Apart from these popular tunes, Pastor Bugembe has other great projects such as Samson,Yabaswaza,Jangu Ombere,Mukama Gwamanyi E'byange and Wandibadde Waffa. All these songs are more less the same as far as lyrical strength is concerned .However Komawo Eka,Njagala Kumanya,Kani and Ani top the Pastor's list if we are to rank all his projects. When you try to analyze Pastor Bugembe's projects, your conclusions will be far from the genuine reality. The fact is that Pastor Bugembe is just unpredictable. Unlike the majority of gospel artists who only sing worship and inspirational songs, the Pastor adds a lot of spices in his projects. His songs inform, inspire, counsel, educate, entertain and also manifest God's distribution of talent. If am to make a comparison on Pastor Bugembe, I would conclude that the singing Pastor is equivalent to a Mass medium. This is because the Pastor's music covers all the traditional functions of any media institution. Even on a bad day, a melody such as Kani, Komawo Eka or Ani will convince you to wear a very long smile.
