Jana Pittman is my hero, our famous Australian runner. She overcame a knee injury to run in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. At first it looked like she wasn’t going to be able to run at all, but she worked really hard days beforehand and managed to run even though her knee hadn’t fully healed. She came in first in her first heat and comfortably advanced into the semi-finals. She then placed second, with a time of 54.05 seconds in the semi-finals. Jana ran in the final and ended up with fifth place.

Jana also has a wild nickname, it is Guarna. Her career highlights are running in the Olympics and winning the world juniors.

Personally, Jana Pittman is a hero to me because she has overcome an injury that could have stopped her real life dreams. And to overcome something like this is really important and I think it is a very gutsy effort to run again, especially when she could have damaged her knee for good and stopped her running ever again. Come to think of it, I believe that the 2004 Olympics wouldn’t have been as exciting without our hero Jana!
