Princess Diana

by Julie from Montvale

Princcess Diana was anointed"The Peoples 'Princess by the English Public." She was truly "England's Rose." Princesss Diana was born July 1st, 1961 and died in a tragic accident August 31,1997. She left behind her two beloved sons William 15 and Harry 12.

Lady Diana Spencer was the third child born to her parents. She had two older sisters and one younger brother. Her parents divorced when she was six years old. It affected her the rest of her life. She was raised by her father Earl of Spencer at Althrop Castle.

She met Prince Charles when she was 19. They fell in love and they married in July 1981. She redefined royal glamour. She opened her heart to the people. Diana supported may causes such as the Red Cross, London Hospices, and she was a champion for aids. Her most important lobes were her children William and Harry. Unfortunately, her marriage to Charles fell apart, and they diborced in 1992. The Princess was drawn out of her relative seclusion after Charles appeared in a television interview in June 1994, during which he claime that he had never loved diana and admitted to an adulterous relationship with Parker Bowles. On November 1995, Diana had a television interview of her own on British television saying that she dispelled any illusion that the royal marriage had a chance of survival and Charles' fitness to rule. She gave her view on his relationship with Parker Bowles, whom Diana obviously disliked. She shared custody of William and Harry with Charles and wanted to be involved in all decisions regarding them and was able to continue living in Kensington Palace. She had to cut down on some of the Charaties. She sold 79 gowns and the total proceed of 6 million dollars went to Aids and Breast-Cancer charities. She continued to be a doting, but loving mother. She was rumored to have been involved with a number of men in he years since her marriage to Charles disintegrated, but her romance with Dodie was widely believed to have been her first serious attachment. Diana and Dodie were killed in a tragic car accident on August 31,1997. If Diana and Dodie had been wearing seatbelts, they would have still been alive today. On September 6,1997, there were over a million people lined up paying their last respects to the Princess they had all taken to their hearts.

Every moment of the hour-long service was by the book. Her younger brother Earl Spencer delivered the eulogy. There were 1900 mourners inside the Abby. Elton John performed " Candle in the wind." He reworded the lyrics to honor "England's Rose." Diana had redefined royal glamour. She was truly a champion of many causes as she opened her heart to the people. She had earned the title that she wanted most: Queen of People's Hearts.

There was a tremendous void left behind. Her children lost their beloved mother who wanted to be a friend and beacon for good causes. She truly led an idyllic life as a Princess and died much too young. The world today still misses their "English Rose." She will always live in our hearts.
