The young Rachel Carson with her future books .
Rachel Carson's love for the environment showed itself in her writings from the time she was 10 years old. This painting shows her concern for the song birds that were affected by the pesticide DDT. The books in the picture are books that she wrote when she was older, one of which, "Silent Spring", helped with the banning of the use of DDT in some parts of the world. Rachel Carson is also a hero to Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki, another hero of mine.
