Katharine Drexel was born November 26,1858 in Phildelphia, Pa. She was the daughter of Millionair Francis Anthony Drexel. She was raised in a devoted, deep faith rooted home with 2 other sisters. One of the many traditions which existed in the Drexel family was prayer and to offer service to anyone who was in need. This became her life, this became her driving force as she grew up in the wealthy area of the City of Philadelphia.
