Soekarno
Soekarno

A hero is a person who always helps anyone, anywhere and anytime. Soekarno is my hero. He is a hero for my country, too. He sacrificed his life for his country to free us from colonization. He succeeded in uniting his country and we became a whole country and won independence on the 17th of August 1945. This country will never be a colonial country again. Soekarno was brave, brilliant, wise, responsible and a good example for his people and, particularly, me.

Soekarno was born in Blitar, East Java, on the 6th of June 1901 and passed away in Jakarta, on 21st June in 1970. He was buried in Blitar, East Java. During his life, Ir. Sekarno was a leader in the Indonesian struggle for independence from the Dutch. Bung Karno was against imperialism and colonialism. In his struggle to free his people from the colonizers' grip, he was often sent to jail and faced banishment. He was imprisoned in Sukamiskin Jail, Bandung and exiled to Ende (Flores) in 1933. This didn’t discourage him or stop him in his struggle for the freedom of Indonesia. He was known as Proclaimer of Independence and became the first President of Indonesia. He was the President from 1945 until 1967.

Soekarno graduated from ITB (Bandung Technology Institute) in Bandung, West Java in 1926. He gained a degree in engineering after working a short time as an architect. Soekarno gave up his career and devoted himself to nationalistic and political activities such as founding PNI (Partai Nasional Indonesian) on 4th of July 1927, joining Partindo (The Indonesian Party) in 1931, then introducing the concept of pancasila (5 Principles), which became the state philosophy of independence of RI on 17th of August 1945.

On 20th of February 1967, President Soekarno relinquished his authority to Jendral Soeharto and on 12th of March 1967 President Soekarno was arrested by the conservatives.
