One can say a hero is an inspiration. Another can say it is someone to strive to be as good as. To me a hero inspires me to do my best. A hero also has courage and ability. A hero shows perseverance, determination and dedication. This is why my hero is Diana Taurasi. She was born in Chino, Southern California on June 11, 1982. Today she stands six feet tall and one hundred and seventy pounds. She is an outstanding basketball player. She went through the University of Connecticut. She currently plays in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury.

To me, Diana Taurasi has gone further than any other women athlete has gone. She has broken records and has achieved many honors. Some of the many records she has broken are number one in points per game. Another one is, she was number one in minutes played. The last one I will state is number one in field goals made. All together she was ranked number one in seven categories. She was also drafted number one overall in the 2004 draft. She was drafted to the Phoenix, Mercury. Diana Taurasi has set such sky-scraping records that they will take a long time to break.

Today Diana Taurasi lives in Phoenix, where she plays. Her hometown is Chino, Southern California. Her dad, Mario, was born in Italy. Her mom was born in Argentina, her name is Lei Anna. Before Diana was born they lived in Argentina. This is where her sister Jessica was born. Diana talks fluently in Spanish. This helps her and her teammates, when they go to different countries. Diana is not only a superb basketball player but is also the team’s spokesperson. She loves the game and will go anywhere to play basketball.

My hero, Diana Taurasi, is still living today. She was born on June 11, 1982. On June 11 she will be turning twenty-five. Today she is twenty-four. In 2004 she was named the youngest player to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Diana is an extremely important person to me because she perspires through her obstacles. Not only did she accomplish many records, but she also had the will to win. She is a motivation to me because she shows me that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

Diana has made a difference in my life in many ways. She taught me to trust my instincts by always going toward a defender, never backing down. She has also done this by never second-guessing herself. She also taught me that you can play more than one position. Diana not only plays shooting guard but also point guard and forward. She also has broken many records such as blocks, points, three pointers and more. She has exceeded what a professional athlete is all about. Diana Taursi has not only made a difference in my life but has also made differences in other peoples' lives. She sends the message out to girls to always try your hardest. You should always try to do your best, no matter what the circumstances are.
