harrit tubman

by keziah from lawrencville

Harriet Tubman is my hero because she has done a lot for my ancestors and me. Reading some of the books people write about this great woman inspires me to do better in school or at sports. Mostly everything that I do I think about Harriet Tubman and how she would act.

I think that Harriet Tubman is inspiring to everybody because she put her life on the line for everybody, and that's how I think everybody should act because then when you die in your grave, you can really rest in peace. And also after you give somebody something, you can say I gave that person that.

Do you know what Harriet Tubman did? Well, I'll tell you. She escaped 2,000 slaves from slavery. Could you do that? And she also had a head injury, so she would just sometimes fall out and about 30 minutes later she would get up. It wasn't very hard for her to get the slaves to get away after the first couple of times.

She also had no directions to get there. She just followed the North Star. The first time, she took her brother to get her family away first. Then the next time she came back for her mother and father.

Harriet didn't just do this by herself. She had a little bit of help from the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad is the place where runaway slaves went after Harriet got them that far.
