Lars in a concert (www.google.com) |
Lars Ulrich is my hero. He is the best drummer of all time. Many of you may not know him, so if you don't, here is a little about him.

Lars Ulrich was born on December 26, 1963, in Gentofte, Denmark. In 1973, his father took Lars to his first rock concert, to see the mighty Deep Purple in Copenhagen, which opened up his eyes and made him focus on music (mainly hard rock and heavy metal). After seeing Deep Purple in concert, Lars took up playing the drums. Soon his family moved to California in the early '80s, and as soon as he got there, Lars quickly put an ad in the local music paper looking for other musicians looking to start up a band. One of the first replies he received was from guitarist James Hetfield, as the pair agreed that they should form a band. Soon after, Metallica was officially born.
Several other bandmembers came and went, until a lineup consisting of bassist Cliff Burton, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, plus Ulrich and Hetfield. They moved to San Francisco to advance their music careers. Metallica was offered a record contract with the independent label Megaforce, if they agreed to move to New York, which they did, replacing Dave Mustaine with Kirk Hammett in the process. Over the course of them releasing three albums, 1983's Kill 'Em All, 1984's Ride the Lightning and 1986's Master of Puppets, Metallica became one of heavy metal's most promising new bands, until Cliff Burton's tragic death nearly derailed the group. With major success just around the corner, the rest of the band members decided to carry on with their new member, Jason Newsted, resulting in such releases as 1988's And Justice for All and 1991's self-titled release, which established the group as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. The '90s saw more stadium tours and further hit albums (1996's Load, 1997's Reload, etc.).

Soon after the start of their first tour, the band became "gods" in the music world. James Hetfield had a good voice and was an awesome guitarist. Lars Ulrich with his killer drum beats. Kirk Hammett with his amazing guitar solos. And with Jason Newsted's bass playing skills. But soon another band change happened. Fairly recently, before their newest album St. Anger, Cliff Burton was re-drafted into the band.

Lars Ulrich is my hero because he is the greatest drummer in the world. He inspired me to play the drums and I one day hope to be as good as him. Lars has had a tough life since the band started. All the changes in the band would have been annoying. On March 22, 1998, his mother, Lone Urlich, died from cancer. There have also been good things in his life too. He is in a killer band and the income in that is a lot better than being a paperboy (which he was) or being a gas station operator. Lars's inspirations to the music world were MotorHead, DiamondHead, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Oaisi, the Prodigy, AIC, and Black Grape. Lars has a wife and a son. Hey I definitely would'nt mind being Lars's son. I think that would be awesome. To me, Lars is a great guy and a great musician. He is also a funny person. Lars and the band just made a movie that came out about the band's history. I would go check it out if I were you. Thanks for reading about the greatest drummer in the world and about my favorite band.
