On June 3rd, 1999, FDNY Captain Vincent G. Fowler was battling a fire in a residential structure, successfully saving and getting a probationary firefighter out of the building. He died the next day on June 4th, due to smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide inhalation. The values imitate fire and its light, showing how it's consuming the hero. His face remains unchanging even in the face of danger/death, reassuring the viewer/whoever is looking at the art that sacrifices may be made, but others shouldn't let themselves be consumed with grief, just as the firefighter had let himself be consumed by the fire.
