"Let's stop feeling sorry for ourselves. It's not very attractive."
Wesley Anderson was born May 1, 1969 in Houston, Texas. He was born to Melvin and Ann Anderson and grew up with two brothers, Eric and Mel. His parents divorced when he was still very young, which he describes as the most crucial event in his childhood. Growing up, he often wrote plays and made Super 8 films in his spare time. Anderson attended Westchester High School in Houston and would later attend and graduate from St. John's.
Anderson in 2017The TalksHe attended the University of Texas in Austin and majored in philosophy there. Here he met Owen Wilson, and they became friends from that point on. They would make films together, and some of them even made it on local cable stations. One of their films, Bottle Rocket, was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was so successful that they were funded to make a full version of the film. Unfortunately the full length version was never widely successful, but it got their names out there and earned him a cult audience.
Rushmore PosterWikipediaThe same year, Anderson won Best New Filmmaker at the MTV Movie Awards, which boosted his popularity. After looking for someone to take in his script with no success, he met Disney chairman Joe Roth, who promised to give him cheap, hands-off support. The film Rushmore was then made, and they would premiere it at a number of festivals. It was given much praise and good reviews and was even called the Movie of the Year in 1999. This movie had huge success and Bill Murray, the co-star in the movie, was named best supporting actor by both the New York and Los Angeles Film Critics Association for the movie.
Anderson talking about Moonrise KingdomEmpireSome of Anderson's best movies are Fantastic Mr. Fox (my personal favorite of all time), The Royal Tenenbaums, Isle of Dogs, The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited and the two listed above, Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. His newest film, Moonrise Kingdom, has already been given many positive reviews. Anderson's films have all been received very positively, and this is a pure reflection of his talent as a director.
Anderson discussing his movie Isle of DogsJAPAN ForwardAnderson is very unique in all his films, as he always captures a new way to show the world in each movie. His films have all been shown love, and because of this, he has gained a cult following and big fan base. He truly is a unique director and is very good at what he does, and it shows by his content and the reviews given.
