PV Sidhu is an inspirational figure for me because of her strong presence in the sports community, and she serves as a representative of all Indian woman, both on and off the court. PV Sidhu is an Indian badminton player, born in Hyderabad. Sidhu has won multiple tournaments, and played at an Olympic level in 2016 and in 2020. Throughout their lives, many young girls are told that they should not play sports, because it is a ‘manly’ thing to do. That doing any sort of physical activity, while also being expected to maintain a perfect, slim figure, is only for men. I myself have been told this one too many times. So many Indian woman are told to repress any sort of desire or instinct to play sports. We are told that it is not proper, and asked who will want to marry a ‘masculine girl’. PV Sidhu proves all these backwards ways wrong. Not only has Sidhu made her country proud by winning multiple medals, and with an astonishing number of 454 Wins across her years of playing badminton, Sidhu can wear a sari, just as well as she wears the Indian team jersey. To me, Sidhu represents the balance that all woman have inside of them, to be fierce and beautiful at the same time. Sidhu serves as a beacon of hope, pride, and strength in India. Her positive spirt, her amazing plays and her capacity to make history time and time again makes me believe I can do anything, just as she does.
