Zighoud youssef

Who's Zighoud Youssef ?

Zighoud Youssef was born on February 18, 1921 in the village Smendou (north-east of Constantine) and died in Sidi Mezghiche on September 25, 1956 in a collision with the French army, is a leader of the FLN fighter during the war of Algeria in the north of Constantine . He died as martyr " shaheed " . 

His struggle :

In his childhood, Zighoud Youssef was influenced by the sermons of Ibn-Badis.
He joined the Algerian People's Party at the age of 17, and in 1938 he became the party's chief official.
After his election as representative of the Movement for the Victory of Democratic Freedoms, he joined the special organization entrusted with providing the necessary conditions for the outbreak of the armed struggle.
The massacres of May 8, 1945, had the eloquent effect of his joining the movement. In 1950, Zighoud Youssef was arrested by the colonial police for membership in the Special Organization until April 1954, when he fled from Annaba prison.

His martyrdom : 

The SOMAM's summit assigned some leaders  to settle some problems in some areas and for him the mission was to solve the problems of eastern leaders in Souk Ahrass.
Before his moving, he preferred to go to his home. On September 23, 1956 he went out of the house to the martyrs to bid farewell to them.
Then four martyrs accompanied him to the work that the revolution assigned to him.  Died as a martyr with his companions after the battle in the valley of Bockerkel .
