"The greatest resource of the ocean is not material
but the boundless spring of inspiration and well-being
we gain from her."

Jacques Cousteau or Jacques-Yves Cousteau was born on June 11,1910 in the small town of St. André-de Cubzac in France. His parents were Elizabeth Duranthon (his mother) and Daniel Cousteau (his father)

Helpful---

A trait that describes my hero Jacques Cousteau is "helpful." He was a very helpful person, not as much towards people necessarily, but to the development of technology. In Jacques' time he was a pioneer inventor and invented many marine devices such as the anti-shark cage, special underwater cameras, and the Aqualung. Most of his inventions were invented during the year 1946. These inventions helped people understand the undersea world and made it safe to explore.

Protector---

Another hero trait that Jacques presents is that he was a protector. Most people, when they think of a protector, they think that it means that he would be saving people's lives. Jacques protected in a different way; he protected the oceans. In the year 1973 he raised awareness of the damage of the oceans by people. Jacques provided an environmental education. With the information that Jacques discovered, he helped preserve and keep the oceans alive for future generations.

Brave---

After high school, When Jacques was 23 he joined the French armed forces, fighting with distinction in the Navy during World War II as a gunnery officer. He also had to clear some roads of land mines to make it safe for the tanks and cars. He had many responsibilities that if he made the wrong move he could have died.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau:
Born: June 11, 1910
Died: June 25, 1997

During his long 87 years on this earth he did many things. He served in World War 2, saved the oceans from dying, and invented many aqua devices for underwater use. Jacques Cousteau is a real hero.
