Do you now who was born in Medellin, Spain? Who got trapped by Aztecs? Who fought the Aztecs? Well it was Hernan Cortes a Mexican explorer from Spain. Who also died at age 62 on December 2, 1547.

Hernan Cortes was born in Medellin, Spain around 1485 to Martis Cortes and Catilina Pazzaro Altamirano. When he was a teen Mr. and Mrs. Cortes wanted him to become a lawyer. When he was 14 he went to the university of Salamanca. Two years later he quit because he wanted to explore new lands.

In the book it said on August 1519 Cortes set sail to Tenochtitlan. When he finally arrived on November 8, 1519. Montezuma the emperor of the Aztecs he was about 50 years old. The Montezuma thought Cortes was the god of the Aztecs named Quetzalcoatl.

In the article it said on April 1520 he found out Velazquez the governor of Cuba sent an army to stop Cortes from conquering the Aztecs so he left. When he came back to Tenochtitlan he found out the man he kept in charged killed thousands of Aztecs so the angry Aztecs trapped Cortes and his men inside the castle and battled. Cortes and his men finally escaped on June 30, 1520.

I read that the battle of Tenochtitlan started on June 9, 1521 when Cortes and over 20,000 other men battled against over 1 million Aztecs. This battle lasted for over 2 months, but at that time the Aztecs had a new leader who was Montezuma's nephew his name was Cuauhtamoc. On August 13th Cortes caught Cuauhtamoc and the 2-month battle was over. Some Aztecs died of hunger or illness during the battle and so did Cortes's men. The good thing is that after the battle Cortes still had over 250 men left.

In conclusion I told you about Hernan Cortes an adventurer from Medellin, Spain. Who sailed to Tenochtitlan, battled against the wishes of the governor of Cuba, and who won over the Aztecs in a 2-month battle. This was the amazing exploration of Hernan Cortes.
