Jackie Chan

by Jarrek from Manhattan

Jackie Chan is responsible for round-house kicks and saving the day, but there's more to Jackie Chan than just his movies. Jackie Chan is an amazing person because he became a successful actor/producer even though he had a hard childhood but he donates to those in need because of that.

Jackie Chan looks to have come from a wealthy family doesn't he? But in fact, his family was poor. Not to mention he was born three months late which didn't help his family at all. At least his parents' friend helped pay the hospital bills. For seven years Jackie lived in in poverty with his parents. His father, Charles, would wake Jackie up early in the morning to practice kung-fu. Charles believed learning kung-fu would help. Jackie build character and learn patience, courage, and strength. Then his father took a job as a head cook for an American Embassy in Australia, but his father could not bring Jackie with him so he enrolled Jackie in the China Drama Academy as a place for Jackie to live. For ten years Jackie lived there, he was taught acting, acrobatics, martial arts, and singing. Life was hard at the academy, they were given little food, beaten if they disobeyed or made a mistake, and were not treated kindly at all, making it harsh and difficult.

Jackie Chan was not as successful as a construction worker or a restaurant worker so he became a stunt man. Willie Chan was impressed by Jackie's stunt man work. Willie offered Jackie to be the new Bruce Lee, but Jackie didn't like Lee's gritty persona. Jackie starred as himself for the first time in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. It was also the first movie he had a part in making. It was really successful. The other first movies Jackie starred as himself are Drunken Master and Fearless Hyena. Jackie also starred in a few commercials too.

Jackie Chan may seem like he doesn't care about anyone but him and his family, but that's NOT true. Jackie donates to charity. He actually started his own charity to give scholarships and education to the kids whose parents can't afford it. He also stopped his Drunken Master series because he doesn't like the idea that kids would think drinking and fighting go well together. He doesn't want kids to smoke, do drugs, or drink at all.

Jackie Chan is a human. No way can anyone deny that. He has had a hard childhood but he decides to donate to kids in poverty because he wants them to live the childhood he never had. Jackie Chan would've never have became successful, if he thought his life would never get better. Willie Chan helped Jackie become successful and Jackie admits it. Jackie is a true hero because he never gave up, he never stopped trying, and he was never selfish. Jackie Chan is always thought of and will always be remembered. And to all those people who said Jackie Chan is dead, think again. Jackie will survive, no. Jackie is surviving.
