Dr.Joanne Fletcher is my hero because she is a woman Egyptologist. Dr. Fletcher is an Honorary Research Fellow in the department of archeology at the University of York. In 2003, she took part in an expedition in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt, to identify the mummy of a middle aged woman referred to as Lady X. Dr. Fletcher believed this mummy to be the lost queen, Nefertiti. Joanne comments about Lady X, "It takes no great knowledge of anatomy to tell that the excellently preserved body is definitely a young woman's." Sadly, the mummy was proved to be Mery-Re-Hapsepsut, the main wife of Tuthmoses III. Zahi Hawass, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, banned her from working in Egypt.
Dr. Fletcher is my hero because I can relate to her in many ways. I relate to her because I am studying Egyptology. I can also relate to her because she is a woman Egyptologist, and when I grow up, I want to be an Egyptologist.
I admire Dr. Fletcher because she went on an expedition in the Valley of the Kings and never gave up on her theory about Lady X.
