Jane Goodall

by Christina from San Francisco

Jane Goodall was an Earth keeper, who reflected chimpanzees to our own humanity. She has done many wondrous things in her lifetime. Jane Goodall has traveled around the world, saving the environment one step at a time. She is a scientist, a writer, and has also discovered one of the most important messages in life.

Jane Goodall has had a remarkable journey. She has traveled around the world from London to the jungles of Africa, and then to the beautiful forests of Gombe. In the London Blitz, Jane Goodall witnessed the bombing of London on September 7, 1940. Hitler wanted to destroy London and Great Britain. Jane was there for the heartfelt tragedy, when for 57 consecutive days and nights London was bombed. Thousands of people died during this tragic time. Later, she went to the magnificent jungles of Africa. There she began an institute for saving the apes of Africa. She stood in Africa for a period of time, so that she could begin, direct, and organize the "Jane Goodall Institute." Later on in her life, she traveled to the magnificent forests of Gombe. There, Jane once again helped the environment by studying the magnificent life of chimpanzees. She watched them for days through binoculars. She discovered that they too create tools with their natural resources. Jane also began the "Gombe Stream Research Centre" in Tanzania. Jane Goodall traveled around the world to fulfill her part of saving the environment.

Jane Goodall believes that she can change the world. She has Reason For Hope that we can all help to contribute to saving ourselves in this Earth. Jane put herself out there and followed her dreams. As a child, Jane was always interested in the wondrous beauties and contributions of nature and it's animals, especially chimpanzees. Jane used her incredible talents to help others. In 1965, she earned a PhD in Ethology. One of the most unique things about Jane studying the chimpanzees was that she named them. Instead of tagging them with numbers and codes, Jane treated them as humans and gave them original human names. She reflects the chimpanzees as human families. Jane Goodall's goal is to educate the world about how to help save and preserve everything in the environment. She has created numerous successful institutes around Africa to encourage young people to do their part to make a difference in our world.

Jane Goodall is also a very intelligent and successful writer and Doctor. She has written many books including some from Gombe - "In the Shadow of Man" and "Through a Window." She also wrote one very spiritual autobiography that tells about her life's journey titled "Reason for Hope". Jane also has a way with children. She has written children's books including "Grub", "The Bush Baby","Chimpanzees I love:Saving their world and ours", and "My life with the Chimpanzees." Lastly the books "The Chimpanzees of Gombe: Patterns of Behavior" and "Harvest for Hope: A guide to Mindful Eating" are associated with her. Also, Jane had a movie made about her titled "Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees" which came out in 2002. Overall, Jane Goodall has had one of the most successful and interesting lives as an important Earth keeper.

Jane Goodall, a life-changing Earth keeper, has had a life-filled journey through the world as she works to save the environment. She has put so much time, effort, faith, strategy, belief, and hope into everything that she does. Jane has made a huge difference in our world and has shared an important message with us all. We all need to have hope that our future will be filled with the marvelous nature that it is filled with now. For these young children need to be educated and take part early in life to help their later life. This is what Jane Goodall, my hero, teaches.
