                                                                                    Childhood

His father died in a car accident when Lovell was very young.  Then, Lovell and his mother moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.                                                                                      Adult Life

James A. Lovell married former Marilyn Gerlachin.  Later Lovell was selected as an astronaut by NASA in September 1962.  James A. Lovell is one of the first humans to leave Earth's gravitational influence on April 11-17 1970.  Lovell retired from the space program on March 1, 1973.  He became the president of Fisk Telephone System Inc. in Houston, Texas, on January 1, 1977.

                                                                                     Famous/Hero

A hero is a person who fights for their country or helps other people.  Being famous is a person who is well known and helpful.  My person is famous because  he was selected as an astronaut by NASA.  He competed his fourth mission as a space craft commander of the Apollo13 flight.  Lovell and fellow crewmen Frank Borman and William A. Anders became the first humans to leave the Earth's gravitational influence.  I think that James A. Lovell is a great person because he is a famous astronaut and he completed many missions.
