My name is Chris. My definition of a hero is someone who supports society. One who goes beyond the call of duty to support something that person believes in. George Washington Carver is my hero. I chose him because is a conservationist.
George Washington Carver was born about 1859-1860 in Diamond, Missouri. He was the son of a slave. He and his mother were kidnapped when he was a baby. The slave owner went to find them and only found George alive. George's father had already died, so the slave owner adopted George. George went to high school near Kansas City and then went on to agricultural college at Iowa State. He received his degree in 1894. In his free time he liked to work in his garden.
George Washington Carver is famous for experimenting with plants. He was a famous scientist. He conducted a number of experiments in crop production and soil management. He was especially famous for his experiments with peanuts. He is known for discovering different types of shampoo, vanishing cream, and ink. There are many educational awards set up in his name.
In 1939 Mr. Carver was given the Roosevelt Award for science. During World War II he invented 500 different dyes. George Washington Carver died January 5, 1943. He is a famous Missourian for his work in science.
I admire George Washington Carver for his work with plants. He was always ready to help others with their experiments. Most African-American men back then did not receive as much education as he did. If you do not have a personal hero, find one that you can model yourself after. Or, try to be a hero(or at least a role model) for someone younger than you. Who knows, someone may already consider you to be their hero.
