This is Olivia Hussey, as Mother Teresa

My hero was someone who changed the lives of others. Her name is Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. You might know her as Mother Teresa. She was a loving and caring person. When she was helping others, she never once thought of herself. My hero is my idol.

Agnes Bojaxhiu was born in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 27, 1910. She was 12 years old when she felt the call from God. At 18 she left home to take her vows as a nun. From 1931 to 1948 she taught at St. Mary’s High School in Calcutta. In 1948 Mother Teresa got permission to go help the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta. She had no money, but she received donations, and opened an open air school for poor children. Mother Teresa also started Missionaries of Charity, it was to help those people no one cared for. The 1979 Nobel Peace Prize was given to Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa lived in many different places. In 1928 she began her religious life in Dublin, Ireland. After that she took a nursing course in Patna. She then joined a convent in Calcutta.

My hero is important to me for many reasons. She helped many, many people and she makes me want to help others less fortunate than I. She changed the lives of others in a good way. Mother Teresa is important because she knew how to care.

My hero is my role model. Mother Teresa died September 5th 1997. After her prayers she gave her heart to the God who had spoken through her for 88 years.
