Mark Ashfield helped hundreds of children in BC Children's Hospital by funding the Superheroes of Victoria foundation. Even though he is not that well known, he is still a hero.
When Mark Ashfield entered BC Children's Hospital for the first time, he wasn't volunteer helping the kids, or as an adult managing a heroic operation to help the kids, it was when he himself was a patient. "I was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, which, for me, basically meant being brought into this world with a constant migraine headache," he says. "I was in the hospital a lot, from the time I was born. And I learned a lot about what makes kids happy in there." The one thing he noticed while he was there, was that none of the kids were sad. Some were upset because their parents were sad, but the smallest thing would make them happy again.

Mark Ashfield founded the Superheroes of Victoria foundation in 2008. It is a charity that is dedicated to raising money and awareness for the BC Children's Hospital and their "Be a Superhero" campaign. The campaign is a $200-million fundraising initiative that will support the construction of a new hospital, and the relocation of Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children. The foundation is 100% volunteer, so all the money goes into the charity.
Mark thinks that the best way to help this campaign is with real superheroes. He has volunteers dress up as superheroes for photoshoots and other things. All proceeds go directly to the BC Childrens Hospital. He runs one of the few foundations that do not take money from the donations for their own personal needs.
I chose Mark because he is doing two things with his foundation. First, he is raising money for the BC Childrens Hospital. Secondly, he is making many kids happy. The kids are young, and they cannot grasp what is happening to them. Because of this, even the tiniest things will make them happy. Mark Ashfield is helping the kids in the two best ways possible.
