Mary Jo Copeland is the founder and director of Sharing and Caring Hands. She is a 73 year old woman (in the year 2010). People in Minneapolis call her the “Mother Teresa of Minneapolis.” The people on the streets of Minneapolis call her their “Street Mother.” City officials call her the “Urban Saint.” She has spent a lot of time and energy helping the poor and directing Sharing and Caring Hands.

Sharing and Caring Hands is a company that was founded by Mary Jo Copeland in 1985 that gives the poor money, clothes, homes, toys, and other needed things. Over the past year, Sharing and Caring Hands has helped 10,000 people shower when they have no access to other cleaning facilities. They also house approximately 500 people each night- that’s about 182,500 a year! They even provide eye exams and glasses. Sharing and Caring Hands provides practically everything!

Mary Jo Copeland is a “wonder woman.” She has raised 12 children- 6 boys and 6 girls. She directs a company. She won the National Caring Award and the Norman Vincent Peale Unsung Hero Award. She also won the 11 Who Care award (an award which KARE 11- a TV station- chooses 11 people that have cared over the year). She has been the director of Sharing and Caring Hands for over 22 years. Mary Jo Copeland is an amazing person.

Mary Jo Copeland isn’t dead. She is still alive. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is still doing work for her company. She currently helps approximately 1,000 people every day! She is still helping people.

Mary Jo Copeland is my hero. She helps so many people every day; she has saved the lives of innumerable people. I could almost write a novel using only the names of people she has saved! She even built an entire building that cost about 5 million dollars. She is my hero.
