One great athlete once said "Don't play soccer because your parents make you, play because you love it." Mia Hamm, also known as Mariel Margaret Hamm is my hero for many reasons. First of all, Mia is exceedingly strong and very hardworking. She is caring as well. Mia Hamm is a great athlete.
Mia Hamm is incredibly strong for a variety of reasons. Mia has played on the women's national soccer team since she was fifteen years old. In 1991, when Mia was at a young age of 19, she and her teammates won the World Cup. In 1993, Mia Hamm and her teammates, of the women's national team, won a silver medal for playing in a national tournament. This all-time athlete was voted MVP (most valuable player) for the Women's Cup in 1995. Mia won three ESPY awards (an award that is for the best athletes of that previous year) in 1995. Hamm also broke the all time national record for the most goals in 1999 season. All in all, she scored a total of 108 goals. Mia scored that 108th goal in a final game against Brazil on May 22, 1999. Mia has come a long way to be awarded so many times.
You could additionally say that Mia Hamm is hardworking. She got voted one of the top FIFA 100 players. That is a list of the best 125 living soccer players. Mia was also voted Best Female Athlete of the year for five years in a row! In 1996, Hamm and her teammates won the gold medal for the Summer Olympics. They again won in 2004. All together this national soccer player has won at least ten awards and has scored 151 international goals. Mia is an unusually hard worker.
Mia Hamm is exceedingly caring. To begin with, Mia started a foundation called the Mia Hamm Foundation. This is a foundation dedicated to Mia's brother Garrett, who was adopted and very close to her heart, who passed away shortly after the 1996 Summer Olympics because of a rare case of bone marrow. This foundation is to raise money to try to find a cure to the bone marrow disease. Mia was extremely upset when she heard of her brother's loss, so her teammates all wore a red wrist band on that day in his honor. Hamm retired from her soccer career on May 14, 2004 after she and her team won the 2004 Summer Olympics. She had decided to start a family with her husband Nomar Garciaparra, the Boston Red Sox third baseman. On March 28th, 2007 Mia became a mother. She had her very first set of baby girl twins. Their names are Grace Isabella and Ava Caroline. Mia Hamm is truly caring for a variety of reasons.
Mia Hamm is an incredibly amazing person for many reasons. She is extremely strong, hardworking, and also very caring. Mia is a hero to me because of her strength and ability to never give up. Mia Hamm fought for those goals to be on the Women's National Soccer Team, and she also got the chance to achieve many more. I look up to Mia because I would like to follow her path to be on the Women's National Team and also win as many awards as she did. Mia Hamm is a role model and a hero to many people.
